Siderofor: Senyawa Transpor Besi Mikrobial
Abstract
Besi merupakan salah satu mineral yang penting bagi bakteri patogenik untuk tumbuh di dalam tubuh inang. Karena konsentrasi besi yang terlarut sangat rendah, bakteri mengembangkan mekanisme-mekanisme untuk memperoleh besi dengan konsentrasi yang memadai, salah satu adalah dengan mensintesa siderofor. Siderofor ini mengadakan kompleks dengan besi yang selanjutnya ditranspor ke dalam sel untuk digunakan oleh mikroorganisme tersebut. Senyawa-senyawa dengan berat molekul rendah ini ditranspor melewati double membrane envelope bakteria melalui gating mechanism yang menghubungkan membran dalam dan luar. Senyawa-senyawa pengkhelat besi ini dibagi menjadi empat kelompok: katekholat, hindroksamat, hindroksipiridonat, dan aminokarboksilat. Potensi patogenik beberapa spesies bakteri dikaitkan dengan kemampuan bakter-bakteri tersebut di dalam mengahasilkan siderofor. Sehingga hal ini dapat dimanfaatkan untuk pengembangan terapi antimikrobial dan pembentukan vaksin.
